Botox

Botox™ (Botulism Type A) has been FDA approved for the treatment of facial responses that result in crossed eyes and persistent twitching of the eyelids and glabellar lines. The existence of wrinkles can be produced by the over-active facial muscles, which can occur above the nose, around the eyes and brow area. The injection of medication into those areas can cause them to be temporarily weakened, thereby improving the appearance of wrinkles. Botox has been used for cosmetic purposes on thousands of patients safely and effectively.

Successfully treated wrinkles include frown lines, crow’s feet, and expression lines due to muscle activity. This treatment does not eliminate wrinkles due to loose or sagging skin.

The results are usually noticeable within 1 week, yet it can take up to 2 weeks before the effects are fully realized. Botox is effective on average from 3-6 months. If desired, the procedure may be repeated. There may need to be more than one treatment for the achievement of full results. We recommend you wait at least 1 month between treatments due to the body’s ability to develop antibodies.

Your head and neck need to be uprights for 4 hours immediately following treatment. During this time, areas that were treated should not be touched, rubbed or manipulated. Please follow all post treatment instructions.

The most common side effects associated with Botox injections are mild swelling and bruising, in which the effects are temporary. Other side effects may include rash, or a brief headache. In rare cases, the medication may spread to other nearby muscles and may cause temporary ptosis (drooping) of an eyelid or brow. These effects are not permanent and are usually resolved in 2-4 weeks. In some patients, Botox may not have significant effects or last as long as expected in which a touch up usually gives improved results.

This treatment cannot be given if you are trying to conceive, pregnant, breast feeding, allergic to albumin or are taking blood thinners, any amino glycosides or have any neurological disease such as, multiple sclerosis, Lambert Eaton Syndrome or myasthenia gravis.
