Oculoplastics is a field covering surgical treatment of the structures surrounding the eyes, including the tear glands, eyelids and orbital or facial bones.
Enucleation/Evisceration
A severely damaged or diseased eye may not always be salvageable even with our state-of-the-art techniques. If necessary, we can surgically remove the affected eye and replace it with a realistic prosthetic eye. Even if the damage is not threatening your health or comfort, you may want to replace a seriously disfigured eye.
Eye Socket Reconstruction
An eye socket damaged by disease or a traumatic accident may need to be repaired surgically. We can also modify the shape of an eye socket as needed to help it contain a prosthetic eye more comfortably and effectively.
Eyelid Malposition (Entropion and Ectropion)
Entropion is an inward-turned eyelid, while ectropion is an outward-turned eyelid. Both of these eyelid malposition problems can be corrected through eyelid surgery.
Eyelid Reconstruction
Cancer or trauma to the eyelids may require surgical reconstruction. The delicate work of eyelid cancer removal may call for a minimally-invasive technique called Mohs micrographic surgery, in which case we can refer you to one of our preferred Mohs surgery partners. Skin grafts and tissue flaps can then restore the eyelid.
Facial Nerve Weakness Surgical Treatment
Nerve damage or compression can cause an eye to droop, twitch, remain open or display other abnormalities. Your eye doctor can prescribe methods to prevent corneal dryness, along with medication or surgery to treat the underlying cause.

Orbital Trauma (Fractures)

Orbital tumors may occur in the eye sockets of children and adults alike, potentially putting dangerous pressure on the eye. We can remove many such tumors on an outpatient basis, referring the largest or most severe cases to a specialist as needed.

Thyroid eye disease can cause the eyes to lose their normal position and bulge forward in the eye sockets, as well as causing retracted eyelids and double vision. We can prescribe medications, radiation or surgery to addresses these problems.
