In general, a forehead or brow lift is any procedure that tightens the skin of the forehead to reduce wrinkles and reposition sagging brows. Here at Spectrum Eye Physicians, our optometrists and ophthalmologists work together to provide a full-service team of eye care professionals, including dealing with issues like sagging brows. Our clients primarily come from the Silicon Valley (we have locations in Cupertino and San Jose), Santa Cruz, and the Santa Cruz mountains (Los Gatos location).
There are several different ways to make the incisions necessary for a brow lift. Surgeons using endoscopic tools make multiple, small incisions around the forehead at the hairline; a wider incision that is concealed within the hair is sometimes made from one side of the head to the other, called a coronal incision. Sometimes, the incision may be made at the hairline in order to avoid creating a higher forehead. This tends to result in scarring that needs to be concealed by bangs or another hairstyle.
If the procedure is to be only a brow lift and not a forehead lift, the incisions are sometimes made directly at or above the brow line. Eyelid surgery is often performed along with a forehead or brow lift, in order to improve the appearance of droopiness in the entire area. This may be especially necessary in cases where the drooping skin is causing problems with vision.
Before choosing to go ahead with surgery, you will need to meet with one of our doctors. If you have previously seen one of our optometrists for an eye exam, you may need to see one of our ophthalmologists. People need to meet minimum health standards, as well as having realistic expectations, in order to be good candidates for surgery. We will discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure, as well as your possible results, at this consultation.
After a successful brow lift, the forehead skin will be tighter, reducing wrinkles and hooded brows. For people who have trouble with drooping skin interfering with their vision, this is generally eliminated. Many people feel younger when some of their facial contours are returned to a more youthful state.
