What to Know About Botox
Spectrum Eye Physicians offers you a solution to reduce the appearance of fine lines around your eyes and correct certain eye conditions. Your treatment is administered by a member of a group of eye doctors and ophthalmologists who understand the interworking’s of your eye, so you know you’ll receive expert results safely performed by a professional. Before you request an appointment, you should educate yourself about Botox, though.
What Is Botox?
Botox, the brand name for botulinum toxin type A, is medication ophthalmologists and eye doctors at Spectrum Eye Physicians inject directly into the skin located on the side of your eye. It’s possible to use it underneath your eye, but research is limited, so it’s typically not the first course of action.
The medication relaxes the muscles surrounding your eye. When injected, the drug blocks nerve impulses, so these nerves aren’t able to contract. It helps correct blepharospasms, which is a condition where your eyelid twitches. If you have wrinkles around your eyes like crow’s feet, it reduces their appearance. It’s also beneficial if you have crossed eyes, also referred to as strabismus.
What to Expect During Botox?
During your eye exam, your eye doctor may recommend Botox to correct your issue. At this time, the eye care professional must provide you with an eye exam to ensure the procedure is safe for you and is the best course of action.
An eye doctor applies an anesthetic to the injection site before giving you the injection in order to minimize any pain or discomfort. The eye care specialist then administers a small amount of Botox around the eyes. After you leave the office, you’re able to return to your daily activities once again.
What to Expect After Botox?
It’s possible to experience side effects from Botox-like bruising, swelling, dizziness, mild pain, hollowness under the eyes, or droopy eyelids. You could also experience fat bulges near the injection site. Some patients have headaches or muscle weakness after the injection. All of the side effects are usually only temporary. If they should persist, contact your eye doctor.
In rare cases, you might have blurry or double vision or facial asymmetry. Changes in your voice like hoarseness are possible. Incontinence has occurred and so has a loss in the use of the muscles in your face or difficulty swallowing. Breathing issues or hives have occurred in rare cases as well. Always inform your eye doctor immediately if you experience rare symptoms.
Forehead & Brow Lifts
In general, a forehead or brow lift is any procedure that tightens the skin of the forehead to reduce wrinkles and reposition sagging brows. Here at Spectrum Eye Physicians, our eye doctors and ophthalmologists work together to provide a full-service team of eye care professionals, including dealing with issues like sagging brows. Our clients primarily come from the Silicon Valley (we have locations in Cupertino and San Jose), Santa Cruz, and the Santa Cruz mountains (Los Gatos location).
Brow Lift Options
There are several different ways to make the incisions necessary for a brow lift. Surgeons using endoscopic tools make multiple, small incisions around the forehead at the hairline; a wider incision that is concealed within the hair is sometimes made from one side of the head to the other, called a coronal incision. Sometimes, the incision may be made at the hairline in order to avoid creating a higher forehead. This tends to result in scarring that needs to be concealed by bangs or another hairstyle.
If the procedure is to be only a brow lift and not a forehead lift, the incisions are sometimes made directly at or above the brow line. Eyelid surgery is often performed along with a forehead or brow lift, in order to improve the appearance of droopiness in the entire area. This may be especially necessary in cases where the drooping skin is causing problems with vision.
Before and After a Forehead/Brow Lift
Before choosing to go ahead with surgery, you will need to meet with one of our doctors. If you have previously seen one of our eye doctors for an eye exam, you may need to see one of our ophthalmologists. People need to meet minimum health standards, as well as having realistic expectations, in order to be good candidates for surgery. We will discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure, as well as your possible results, at this consultation.
After a successful brow lift, the forehead skin will be tighter, reducing wrinkles and hooded brows. For people who have trouble with drooping skin interfering with their vision, this is generally eliminated. Many people feel younger when some of their facial contours are returned to a more youthful state.
