Dr. Martin L. Fishman is a highly respected ophthalmologist and a co-founder of Spectrum Eye Physicians. With decades of expertise in cataract surgery and a distinguished career in education, leadership, and public service, Dr. Fishman has earned a reputation for excellence in patient care and innovation.
Education
Raised in California, Dr. Fishman completed his pre-medical studies at University of California, Berkeley, graduating cum laude in Medical Sciences. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center, graduating in the top 10% of his class.
Dr. Fishman completed a medical internship at Harbor General Hospital in Torrance, California, a major UCLA teaching hospital, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. He further honed his expertise as a Clinical Fellow at the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, conducting clinical and laboratory research.
Specialties
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Fishman is an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Stanford University, where he serves as Director of the Pathology Section of the Stanford Basic Science Course in Ophthalmology and has been recognized as an Outstanding Clinical Faculty Teacher.
He has held several leadership roles, including serving as Chief of Medical Staff at Community Hospital of Los Gatos and President of the California Association of Ophthalmology, and is currently a Trustee of the California Medical Association.
A dedicated humanitarian, Dr. Fishman organizes the Guatemala Outreach Program, providing medical and surgical eye care to underserved populations. Outside of his professional commitments, he enjoys photography, gardening, and staying active through regular exercise.
